City Spotlight: Dive into the Transformative Stories of DigiTwins4PEDs in Stuttgart and Sofia – A Global Exploration of Urban Energy Innovation.

Rosenstein (Stuttgart)

Rosensteinviertel is a planned development district in the north-eastern part of Stuttgart, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It is being created as a result of the transformation

of former railway land into a modern, sustainable part of the city. The project is one of the largest urban development programs in Germany, combining housing, greenery, and infrastructure.

Key facts

  • Location: Northern Stuttgart, near Rosensteinpark and Neckar
  • Area: approx. 85 hectares
  • Functions: residential, office, recreational, and cultural
  • Sustainability: priority for pedestrian and bicycle mobility, renewable energy

Rosensteinviertel is being built on railway land freed up by the Stuttgart 21 project, which is moving the railway lines underground. This allows for the reclamation of significant areas in the city center and their reuse for urban purposes. The district is intended to be a model example of sustainable urban development.

Lozenets (Sofia)

Lozenets is one of the most attractive and valued districts of Sofia, located south of the city center. Thanks to its strategic location, immediate proximity to the largest green areas, and developed urban infrastructure, it is a model example of sustainable, high-quality residential development within the structure of a large metropolis.

One of Lozenets’ key advantages is its proximity to Sofia’s two most important parks – Borisova Gradina and South Park. They provide residents with access to extensive recreational areas, sports infrastructure, and natural green corridors, enhancing the microclimate of the district and improving the quality of life.
